Firehouse Subs gives grant to Idaho paramedics for ballistic vests

The vests will help ensure "TacMed" is safe when entering hostile environments to provide care to police officers, innocent victims, bystanders and suspects

ADA COUNTY, Idaho — Firehouse Subs granted Ada County Paramedics’ Tactical Medical Team with funds to purchase new bullet proof vests to help ensure "TacMed" is safe when entering hostile environments to provide life-saving care to police officers, innocent victims, bystanders and suspects.

Ada County Paramedics' TacMed team is essentially the ‘medical side” of the SWAT team. TacMed trains with and works alongside law enforcement officers who serve high-risk warrants, respond to barricaded subjects, perform hostage rescues, dispose of explosives and enter into shooting hot zones. TacMed’s primary goal is to ensure officer survival.

The TacMed team is the same group who responded to a Boise Police Department shooting in 2016 when Corporal Kevin Holtry was shot. The Boise Police Department has since charged the Ada County Paramedics TacMed team with saving its officers lives that day. With access to this new equipment, Ada County Paramedics Tactical Medical Team is able to more safely and efficiently respond to and care for trauma patients while simultaneously ensuring the safety of the responding TacMed Team members
